Grave Listing of the Allen Hunter Cemetery

The first burial in the Allen Hunter Cemetery was in September 1849. Several relatives of Reverend/Elder Allen Hunter and his wife Elizabeth Lee Hunter were buried at this cemetery until April 1948. There were no burials between May 1948 and April 1992. The last burial (as of January 2010) in the Allen Hunter Cemetery was in November 2001.

The following list of people buried at the Allen Hunter Cemetery is not considered complete. There are more graves that have not been recorded or identified.

Tabitha Hunter, b. & d. 9-17-1849; an infant daughter of Elder Allen Hunter and his wife Elizabeth Lee Hunter. Tabitha was their 6th child.

Lazarus Hunter, b. & d. 9-18-1850; Lazarus was the infant son of Elder Allen Hunter and his wife Elizabeth Lee Hunter. He was their 7th child.

Mary Hunter, b. & d. 6-19-1851; Mary was the infant daughter of Elder Allen Hunter and his wife Elizabeth Lee Hunter. She was a twin of Dempsey Allen Hunter. Mary was their 9th child.

Clementine Hunter, b. 11-4-1855 d. 11-18-1855; Clementine was the infant daughter of Elder Allen Hunter and his wife Elizabeth Lee Hunter. Clementine was their 11th child.

Reverend/Elder Allen Hunter, b. 10-25-1813 d. 4-1-1896; Son of Emanuel Hunter (b. 9-17-1787 d. 1-7-1874) and Judith Lee Hunter (b. 1-6-1792 d. 8-8-1852). He married Elizabeth Lee (b. 12-7-1820 d. 7-21-1910) on 4-15-1838. He was a highly respected minister of the Primitive Baptist faith. He and Elizabeth had 15 children.  The word Rev. is inscribed on his tombstone, but Primitive Baptists use the term Elder for their ministers.

Elizabeth Lee Hunter, b. 12-7-1820 d. 7-21-1910; She was the daughter of Elder Charles B. Lee and Mary Griffin Lee. She married Allen Hunter (b. 10-25-1813 d. 4-1-1896) on 4-15-1838. Her brother, Charles Brooken Lee (b. 7-9-1814 d. 5-22-1903), married Allen Hunter’s sister, Elizabeth Hunter (2-22-1817 d. 7-27-1860). Elizabeth Lee Hunter and the Elder Allen Hunter had 15 children.

Charles Brooke (Brooken?) Lee, b. 7-9-1814 d. 5-22-1903; Son of Elder Charles B. Lee and Mary Griffin Lee. He and his father were named after Charles Lee (1758-1815), U.S Attorney General who served during President Washington’s administration. Belva Hunter Hall recorded that her grandmother, Elizabeth Lee Hunter stated that Attorney General Charles Lee was Elder Charles B. Lee’s uncle (this connection has not been proven yet). Charles Brooke Lee was a brother to Elizabeth Lee Hunter, wife of the Elder Allen Hunter. He married Elizabeth Hunter (b. 2-22-1817 d. 7-27-1860), Elder Allen Hunter’s sister on 6-9-1839. They had 8 children.  Charles B. Lee was ordained as an Elder in the Primitive Baptist Church in 1867 and served until his death.  His sons Thomas B. Lee and H.R. Lee were also ordained as Elders of the Primitive Baptist Church.

Elizabeth Hunter Lee, b. 2-22-1817 d. 7-27-1860; She was a daughter of Emanuel Hunter (b. 9-17-1787 d. 1-7-1874) and Judith Lee Hunter (b. 1-6-1792 d. 8-8-1852) and a sister to Elder Allen Hunter. She married Charles Brooke Lee on 6-9-1839. They had 8 children.

Judia Ann Hunter Sanders, b. 11-10-1832 d. 12-17-1919; daughter of Emanuel Hunter (b. 9-17-1787 d. 1-7-1874) and Judith Lee Hunter (b. 1-6-1792 d. 8-8-1852). She was a sister to Elder Allen Hunter. She married Leander Anthony “Ant” Sanders (b. 1828 d. <1880) on 11-24-1850. They had 10 children.

Leander Anthony “Ant” Sanders, b. 1828 d. <1880); He married Judia Ann Hunter Sanders (b. 11-10-1832 d. 12-17-1919) on 11-24-1850. They had 10 children.

Marshall Sanders, b. 12-30-1851 d. 9-7-1853. Infant of Judia Ann Hunter Sanders and Leander Anthony Sanders. He was a grandchild of Emmanuel Hunter and Judith Lee Hunter.

Reverend Dempsey Allen Hunter, b. 6-19-1851 d. 1-18-1911; Son of Elder Allen Hunter and Elizabeth Lee Hunter. Dempsey had a twin sister, Mary, who died at birth. He married Elizabeth Florence Garrison (b. 9-15-1858 d. 10-1945) on 3-7-1875. They had 5 children. After divorcing Florence he married Betty _______. He died of diphtheria.

Talitha Cumi Hunter Perry, b. 6-1-1845 d. 2-13-1902; She was a daughter of Elder Allen Hunter and his wife Elizabeth Lee Hunter. She married Isaac W. Perry (b. 9-25-1814 d. 1882) on 12-23-1880. He had one son, Ehud Perry, from a previous marriage. They had one child, Hardy A. Perry (b. 1-17-1882 d. 2-28-1952).

Isaac W. Perry, b. 9-25-1814 d. 1882; Son of Roderick Roundtree Perry and Nancy Benson Perry. He married Talitha Cumi Hunter on 12-23-1880. They had one son, Hardy A. Perry.

Laura Bell Perry, b. 1-18-1914 d. 7-10-1914; 6-month old baby of Hardy A. Perry (b. 1-17-1882 m. 1915 d. 2-28-1952) and Ida Mann Perry (b. 1885 m. 1915 d. 11-15-1941). Hardy and Ida Mann Perry had a second daughter, Beulah May Perry Willard of St. Louis. Hardy A. Perry was a son of Talitha Cumi Hunter Perry (b. 6-1-1845 d. 2-13-1902) and Isaac W. Perry (b. 9-25-1814 d. 1882). Talitha Cumi Hunter Perry was a daughter of Elder Allen Hunter and Elizabeth Lee Hunter. Laura Bell was a great granddaughter of Elder Allen Hunter and Elizabeth Lee Hunter.

Celia A. Hunter Ralls Rudolph, b. 5-7-1843 d. 1-29-1911; She was a daughter of Elder Allen Hunter and his wife Elizabeth Lee Hunter. She married Jesse Singleton Ralls (b. 1830 d. 1870 to 1880). They had 5 children. She married William H. Whitecotton (son of Berry Whitecotton and Phoebe) on 10-10-1889. She married Isaac M. Snyder on 6-30-1897. She married Jacob Rudolf (b. 12-15-1843 d. 3-22-1932) on 6-14-1904.

Infant Daughter Ralls, b. 1872 d. 1872; Baby of Celia A. Hunter Ralls and Jesse Ralls. There may have been another daughter (twin) buried here also. She was a granddaughter of Elder Allen Hunter and Elizabeth Lee Hunter.

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Ralls Rosenswak, b. 5-1870 d. 1908; Daughter of Jesse Singleton Ralls (b. 1830 d. 1870-1880) and Celia A. Hunter Ralls (b. 5-7-1843 d. 1-29-1911) and a granddaughter of Elder Allen Hunter and Elizabeth Lee Hunter. She married Fred Rosenswak (b. 1-1865 d. 10-12-1950) on 2-17-1892. They had 7 children.

Infant Rosenswak, b. 1892 d. 1892; Baby of Elizabeth “Lizzie” Ralls Rosenswak (b. 5-1870 d. 1908) and Fred Rosenswak (b.1-1865 d. 10-12-1950). This baby was a great granddaughter of Elder Allen Hunter and Elizabeth Lee Hunter.

Dulcenia “Della” Hunter Jones, b. 10-30-1847 d. 10-27-1928; Daughter of Elder Allen Hunter and Elizabeth Lee Hunter. She married John Jones (b. 1832 d. 1916) on 2-27-1901 when she was 53 and he 69. John Jones had three children by a previous marriage.

Noah Hunter, b. 12-19-1856 d. 5-20-1924; Son of Elder Allen Hunter and his wife Elizabeth Lee Hunter. He married a widow Harriet Adeline Hester Renfro who had three children on 3-17-1895. Together they had three children.

Joshua A. Sanders, b. 7-1853 d. 10-21-1923; Joshua was a son of Judia Ann Hunter (b. 11-10-1832 d. 12-17-1919) and Leander Anthony Sanders (b. 1828 d. <1880). He was a grandson of Emanuel Hunter (b. 9-17-1787 d. 1-7-1874) and Judith Lee Hunter (b. 1-6-1792 d. 8-8-1852) and a nephew of Elder Allen Hunter. He married Martha Susan Sanders (b. 3-15-1862 d. 4-17-1948) on 1-13-1881. They had 2 children.

Martha Susan Sanders, b. 3-15-1862 d. 4-17-1948; She was a daughter of Luke Rawls Sanders and Susan Elizabeth Ozbrook. She married Joshua A. Sanders on 1-13-1881. Susan and Joshua had 2 children.

Orphenia Elizabeth Hunterb. 10-2-1897 d. 8-5-1905; She was a daughter of Marion Jacob Hunter (b. 1-13-1859 d. 1-29-1938) and Sarah Florence Dial Hunter (b. 4-27-1873 d. 7-25-1950), a grandchild of Elder Allen Hunter and Elizabeth Lee Hunter, and an older sister of Belva Armetta Hunter Hall. She died at age 7. Belva was 5 at the time of Orphenia’s death.

Tracey Chamness, b. 4-26-1960 d. 11-25-2001; He was a son of Samuel Laborn Chamness (b. 5-23-1926) and Irene Ellis Chamness. Samuel Laborn Chamness was a son of Frances Esther Hunter (b. 12-31-1894 d. 11-27-1975) and Lee Chamness (b. 1-23-1890 d. 11-10-1972). Frances Esther Hunter was a daughter of Marion Jacob Hunter (b. 1-13-1859 d. 1-29-1938) and Sara Florence Dial Hunter (b. 4-27-1873 d. 7-25-1950). Marion Jacob Hunter was a son of Elder Allen Hunter and Elizabeth Lee Hunter. Tracey was a gr. gr. grandson of Elder Allen Hunter and Elizabeth Lee Hunter.

Shawn Michael Chamness, b. 7-31-1991 d. 3-25-1992; Shawn was a 6-month old son of Tracey Chamness (b. 4-26-1960 d. 11-25-2001). He was a gr. gr. gr. grandson of Elder Allen Hunter and Elizabeth Lee Hunter.
